What do I need to do to get my Amex account refreshing?
If you are on our mobile application, please ensure that the application is updated to versions - iOS v9.6.7 / Android 9.5.5 and above. There are 2 options, please read them carefully:
Option 1: Delete your old account
- Delete the original Yodlee version of account
- Add your account as new from "add accounts"
IMPORTANT TO NOTE: If you choose this option, you will not be able to retain the historical tags (categorisations) and transactions associated with the Amex account. The Open Banking instance of the account will return up to a maximum of 3 years data on add, if you have had your Amex account connected for some time and have history going back longer than 3 years it will not be possible to replace the full history from the Open Banking data. We advise, exporting a list of your historic transactions to CSV to keep an offline record if this is relevant for you.
Option 2: Leave your old account
If you have long term historic data that you want to keep in your Money Dashboard Classic account and do not feel that a 3 year history or offline copy is sufficient you can leave your account as it is, or mark the old account as closed before adding a new connection.
IMPORTANT TO NOTE: This will result in duplicate transactions when adding the Open Banking instance of the account, so to address this you would then need to delete all the duplicated historic transaction data from the Open Banking account.
This option will be more time-consuming, and if you take this approach please ensure you filter the Transactions page to only show data from the Open Banking version of the account.
If you inadvertently remove any transaction data from the Closed Yodlee version of the account it will not be possible to recover this, and will also result in some unavoidable plotting errors with the balance history charts.
Instructions for removing duplicate transactions can be found here.
- Set the Yodlee version of the account to a Closed status (Mark as closed) - this will retain the historic transaction data and set the balance of the old account to £0.
- Add Amex as a new account from "add accounts" screen
Troubleshooting failed add

Why can't I just 'switch' my connection like other accounts?
A switch from the previous credential sharing connection is not possible to the new Open Bank API connection due to Amex's API differing from the Open Banking APIs for the other banks we have enabled. In order to stay connected to Amex on Money Dashboard Classic you will need to add the account as new.
To avoid duplication you will also need to take action on your old account.
If you have connected your American Express account before 14th March 2020, it will no longer be possible to refresh them and no new data will load.
Under the PSD2 regulations, from 14th March 2020 all connections will need to be supported via Open Banking API connections, and you will no longer be able to connect to them on Money Dashboard Classic via the older credentials sharing connection with our data provider Yodlee.
This is in line with industry changes mandated by FCA and CMA. More information about open banking changes can be found here.
